Suggestion Box / Re: Gels
« on: May 14, 2008, 10:38:17 AM »
Man there were only boxes of mango everywhere. I have tried it once an it may have been old but I remember it being hideous. I stuck with water and 1 flavor GU the whole bike ride and half the run. Since I had a bad experience with a GI issue last year. I was hoping to change it up with something different later in the race.  I just can't handle the mango or the raspberry. They both taste like the fruit is bad. A cola flavor or lime or something bland would be nice.  Amino Vital make a great grape and Enervitene make a cola, that are great.  At mile 10 I was grateful for the beer station.  I just wish they would have offered me a brat. LOL.  Again, the volunteers are awesome.

Suggestion Box / Gels

This year was mango, everywhere. Yuck. Is this the kind they can't sell. There has to be a good neutral flavor. I like the idea of having the same type of gel, to reduce GI, issues. I would like to know ahead of time which flavors will be available, so that I can get my stomach in sync. Thank goodness for the oranges.

I loved the volunteer. They were awesome.

Please everyone go to Athlinks.com and register for a free page. It will show all or your race results and it also compares to rivals in each race. It is a space like myspace but for endurance athletes. You will love this tool. You can show off your equipment and use it as a record of your accomplishments. I am wanting more people to join so that I can add to my friends at these events. Thank you.

Bike Course / Re: Bike Course
« on: May 14, 2007, 04:09:32 PM »
I thought the bike course was in bad shape. I got worried as every mile I pa##ed someone changing a tire. Keep focused and avoid the potholes. I lost 2 water bottles (at the same time)because of the bumps. The bridge was not too tough. Everyone I was around was riding the brakes on the way down the bridge. Going out there is a turn and I understand, but coming back in. Put the hammer down or get out of the way. Save a little time by skipping water station at mile 50 if possible. Just fly by everyone slowing down. I am praying for repavement.

Race Nutrition / During the race, do not over eat on the course.

It makes for a miserable run in the heat. I was fueling at every station, Bad Idea, not many portojohnnys in the state park. Yikes. Take a sponge at every station to cool you down. Also, grab a cup of water and squish the cup so not to spill and run a little and resoak your sponges with the water.
