What is the heat usually like on the run.  Is it shaded at all or are sungla##es and a visor a must.

There is *no* shade on the course. If the sun's out and it's warm at all, you'll bake. Last year it was only 80 degrees and relatively low humidity, but it was an anomaly.

I completely agree....the course is wide open the entire run.  The only shade you might have will be from your hat/visor.  Make sure you take in alot of fluids on the course.

It is not named Gulf Roast by accident.  They have lots of iced sponges available at aid stations.  Wear a hat and top that will accommodate several of these until the next aid station.  If you want to run this course and be cooler try Ironman Florida.  Same course(2X) and late in the day, evening  and night(for slowme)it is very pleasant.
